The mission of Lake Michigan Academy is to transform lives by empowering students with learning differences to achieve their full potential.
❄ Mother Nature foiled our MLK Day plans, but we still made a difference! ❄🌟 Yesterday, our students volunteered by making toys for animals to send to a local shelter, coloring pictures for those in need, and creating cards for homebound seniors. Every small act can make a big impact! 💕

Our fish are growing at a rapid pace! It's incredible to see how quickly they're developing. They are now up to the FRY stage of their growth pattern, which is a crucial milestone in their journey. We love to observe and learn about all the stages and changes with these little pals! It's fascinating to witness their transformation and growth, and we can't wait to see what the future holds for them!

🐟 Salmon Spotlight: The Alevin Stage! 🐟
Right now, our salmon are in the Alevin stage of their life cycle. At this stage, the tiny fish are newly hatched and still carry a small yolk sac attached to their bodies. This yolk sac provides all the nutrients they need, so the alevin stay safely hidden in the gravel (or corner of the tank in this case) while they grow stronger and prepare for their next stage of life.
Our students love observing how the alevin develop each day — it’s an amazing way to connect science to the real world and build a deeper appreciation for local ecosystems. 🌱💧
