Preventing the Summer Slide
If you are worried your child will not be ready for school this fall, we can help. It is common for students to forget information they learned during the school year. Students with learning differences are at a greater risk of not retaining their skills due to various neurological reasons.Â
Lake Michigan Academy’s summer program is designed to minimize this summer slide by keeping students’ minds engaged with exciting, hands-on activities that encourage academic growth and important remedial work to address any gaps in learning your child has acquired.
5 Week Remediation, Summer Fun & Personalized Learning
Lake Michigan Academy’s in-person five-week summer program will take place June 9 – July 10 and will provide students entering grades 3-8 with individualized instruction in reading, writing, and math. Our program combines the expertise of Lake Michigan Academy faculty with research-based techniques to provide students with learning disabilities and/or ADHD with skill-based instruction and success.
Our program is led by experienced teachers using research-based techniques to provide skill-based instruction for students with learning differences and/or ADHD. Our mission is to enable them to achieve their full potential in the classroom and beyond.

Looking for Something Different?
Reading & Math Tutoring with Turning Pages
In addition to our five-week program, Lake Michigan Academy and Turning Pages also offer one-on-one in-person and remote tutoring this summer. These tutorials are open to students of all ages, including grades 9-12. We can help your child make gains in reading and basic math skills with individualized lessons based on your child’s needs. Lessons are hands-on, multisensory, and created for your child. Take advantage of our flexible summer sessions and give your child the boost they need to be successful in the coming school year.
​Our Orton-Gillingham approach, based on The Science of Reading, is a proven method for improving reading skills. Our experienced tutors will work closely with your child to:
- Build foundational skills: Phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, and basic math skills
- Improve comprehension: Reading strategies and critical thinking
- Boost confidence: Positive reinforcement and personalized instruction
- ​Flexible one-on-one, in-person, and remote tutoring provided
