Phonological Foundations Workshop: Language Development through Play
Phonological Awareness is the ability to identify and manipulate segments of oral language. Many researchers agree on the importance of phonological awareness and its relationship to reading and spelling success.
- This 1.5-hour workshop is created from up-to-date, evidence-based research about the importance of phonological awareness for our earliest learners, which includes Early Childhood Michigan Standards 1-7.
- We share an assessment to pinpoint each child’s abilities, and participants receive a manual of leveled activities and materials.
- Participants leave this training equipped not just with a full understanding of pre-literacy skills and its importance for young children, they will also have the skills and corresponding activities to implement it right away.
Just ten focused minutes a day of fun and engaging activities has the power to give children the foundational skills for future reading success.
“Reading and phonemic awareness are mutually reinforcing: Phonemic awareness is necessary for reading, and reading, in turn, improves phonemic awareness still further.” (Shaywitz, 2003).
